Men's Health Awareness Month

It's always some kind of health awareness month...

June is Men's Health Awareness month! (Yes, it is also Scoliosis Awareness Month as well.) You can celebrate Men's Health Awareness month by wearing blue. You can create an event and find the resources to do that by visiting the organization's site here.

According to the promoters of National Men's Health Month, "[t]he purpose of Men’s Health Month is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. This month gives health care providers, public policy makers, the media, and individuals an opportunity to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury. The response has been overwhelming with thousands of awareness activities in the USA and around the globe."

Some diseases do affect different demographics more than others, and for this month, I want to highlight a very important screening procedure that you can do at home. Testicular screening for any unusual lumps or bumps that could indicate a variety of testicular problems.

While I am offering free scoliosis screenings for the month of June, I will not be offering to perform testicular screenings myself! Instead, please review this information for how to perform a screening at home! Make sure that you perform this testicular screening regularly so that you become familiar with your testicles and are able to detect a change in the shape, symmetry and consistency of that tissue.

Huge thanks to I heart guts for this awesome poster explaining how to screen for testicular cancer.
