Have you heard of doTerra?
If you're interested in health and wellness, you've probably heard of essential oils. However, did you know that not all essential oils are created equally? Did you know there is little to no regulation and quality control in the essential oil market? The FDA allows an oil to be marketed and sold as a "Pure" essential oil with AS LITTLE AS 5% of the named oil in the bottle.
I have partnered with doTerra, the largest essential oil provider in the American market. Each batch of doTerra oils are certified pure. They are meticulously tested to ensure that the chemical profile is the same from bottle to bottle. The botanicals from which the essential oils are made are grown on sustainable, fair-trade farms that are all certified organic and non-GMO. In addition to boosting small agricultural economies throughout the world, doTerra has created numerous philanthropies, including one benefiting female education around the world.
Why essential oils?
Essential oils are part of how I stay healthy. I use them daily in my home and in my practice. Oils can be used aromatically, topically, or internally. Aromatically, they can calm or energize you as well as balance energy levels in your environment. They can help you sleep better, wake feeling refreshed, and can even fight some conditions while you sleep. While I feel like I almost always my diffuser running, I think I use most of my oils topically. Because of the way essential oils are produced, they are easily absorbed through the skin. Essential oils applied topically can assist with a multitude of conditions. Finally, essential oils can be taken internally, and this is where it is so important to know the quality of your oils. The oils need to be food-grade, and you need to know that they are reliably the same each time you try to ingest them!
What oils should I start with?
If you were only going to start with one or two, I would probably recommend that you purchase a 15 mL bottle of Lavender and a 15 mL bottle of Melaleuca. Both of these bottles are under $30 retail, which is a great way to get your start with essential oils. Between the two of them, they are able to boost the immune system, help the body protect against bacterial, viral *and* fungal infections, stop the burn process (making it excellent for sunburns), clean the skin, clean the air, improve your mood, help you sleep more restfully, and even more. Neither of them are actually my favorite smell, but I can't think of two more versatile oils. What's more is that it's amazing how the scents will start to grow on you over time. I actually really enjoy lavender now.
