Chiropractic Physical Exam

Chiropractic physical exams differ from regular medical exams in several ways. First, initial chiropractic exams are generally expanded and include information related to your entire health history and not just your chief complaint at the time of the first visit. Global patterns of symptoms can often reveal an underlying cause not immediately apparent if you're only investigating the chief complaint. Next, chiropractic exams will perform a series of tests to determine the health and stability of your spine, with special focus paid to the area(s) of complaint. Lastly, the chiropractic exam will likely include additional orthopedic testing to help with differential diagnosis. Sometimes, x-rays are required, and sometimes laboratory work may be necessary. Should any questionable findings arise that require an additional consult, Dr. Hatten will work with you and your primary care provider to ensure that you have the best care possible, even if it means that you may require specialty care elsewhere and won't remain a patient in his office.

What should I expect?

  • For simple cases, the physical exam should take about 15 minutes.

  • Every patient will not need x-rays. If you do, we will help you schedule an appointment at an outpatient facility.

  • The first adjustment is usually delivered upon completion of the physical exam.

  • After your first adjustment, make sure that you drink lots of water and get plenty of rest.

When discussing your health history with Dr. Hatten, it is essential that you share as much information as possible. This will ensure that you receive the most accurate diagnosis possible. Remember that anything you say or do in the office will be held in the strictest confidence according to all professional and legal standards.
